Yaron Eliav

Since 2000, Yaron Eliav has functioned as a professor for rabbinic literature and Jewish history in the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Ann Arbor’s University of Michigan. His role at the school includes leading courses on the history of the Roman Mediterranean region, rabbinic literature, archaeology, and various areas of Judaic studies. He also serves the school as an undergraduate academic advisor for students majoring in Hebrew and Jewish Cultural studies, Ancient Near Eastern languages and literature, and other relevant areas of academia. Yaron Eliav advises graduate-level students as well, though he limits himself to those focusing on ancient Judaism, with emphasis on archaeology and material culture. His professional and academic offerings are heightened by memberships with organizations like the American Association for Jewish Studies and the Society of Biblical Literature.Professor Eliav spent time in New York City before taking his position in the University of Michigan’s near eastern studies department. As a Dorot Postdoctoral Fellow at New York University, he conducted research activities and taught courses for two years. When he is not teaching and performing research, Yaron Eliav enjoys hiking with his family and pursuing other outdoor adventures, like white-water rafting.
