Yashuang Cui
Student in 香港
Nice to see you all!
I’m Crystal and my Chinese name is Cui Yashuang. Currently, I am a student studying TESL in City University of Hong Kong.
I was born and live in Enshi, which is located in southwestern province. As you know, China is a multi-ethnic countries with Han nationality and 55 minorities. Although I am one of Han Chinese in my hometown, Enshi is home to several ethnic minority groups, including the Miao and Tujia. I think it is a vivid example to show what happens to a people group when assimilation takes place because today all of us speak mandarin as our first language and few still wear traditional style of dress. There is no better way to enjoy the local scenery and customs than climbing mountains and tasting local cuisines.
I began to study at in 2012 and got my bachelor’s degree this year. As my graduation internship, I worked as an English teacher in a middle school. After that, I realized I must understand and embrace this language and its culture more with the goal of being a good English teacher. Therefore, I came here.
Hong Kong is very different from my hometown, but I love those differences. I’m currently working on improving my Cantonese. I guess it will be an unforgettable experience studying and living in Hong Kong for a year.
Hope we can cherish every moment in Hong Kong.
