Yasmin Ceballos
Student and Volunteer in Chicago, IL
I am a student and volunteer currently living in Chicago, Illinois. I attend Nazareth Academy, a private high school in LaGrange Park, Illinois.
At Nazareth Academy, I am greatly involved in my school community. I lead various clubs such as Diversity Club, The Latino Hispanic Affinity Group, and Class Board, as well as play Varsity Soccer and Cheerleading. In said clubs, I organize successful fundraisers for organizations that help cancer patients and immigrants at the border. While being greatly involved in my school community, I also maintain a 4.01 GPA. I am apart of National Honors Society and Mu Alpha Theta.
I am also involved in various service opportunities in and around my community. I volunteer at The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Feed My Starving Children, and UI Health. At both The Greater Chicago Food Depository and Feed My Starving Children, I pack food for the less fortunate in the Chicagoland area and in developing countries. At UI Heath, I am a volunteer at UIC’s Hospital. I volunteer in the Out-Patient Pediatrics Center and the Oncology Center. I aid pediatric patients by reading or coloring with them and making them comfortable. I act as a translator for patients who only speak Spanish. In the Oncology Center, I work with the front desk, nurses, and doctors to provide the best care possible for cancer patients.
I have earned the “Making A Difference On and Off the Field” award for my outstanding service and grades. I was also awarded a $100 check to donate to my organization of choice.
