SPECIAL: Yesandi's DANCE JOURNEY
Her dance journey roots back again to 2012 where she danced with her fellows for ‘Fooba Wooba John’ at her nursery school's annual concert and from 2014 - 2018, she was part of the Ranwala Balakaya: where she studied traditional Sri Lankan dance (Kandyan dancing) (and folk singing) especially inspired by her mother, Ms. Nisanka Karunaratne who was an excellent traditional dancer during her young days in the 80s-90s. In 2017 (age 8), Yesandi joined the Deanna School of Dancing where she started to live her dream as a ballerina. In the midst of this young and tender journey, the year ‘2015’ changed her life shaping her journey into something big at a very young age while expanding her love for performing more… she discovered the artistry of The King of Pop - Michael Jackson; a defining moment that would shape her journey as a dancer. Deeply inspired by his movement, precision, and unmatched stage presence, she began studying and emulating his style, gradually building her own identity through it. A devoted admirer of his work, she grew up immersed in his influence, allowing it to guide her understanding of rhythm, expression, and performance. After years of being a young self-taught dancer and dancing around the countryside from a very young age, in the early weeks of April 2026, she took a significant step forward by enrolling at “Dance Works Centre” under the guidance of Ms. Kanthi Ranchigoda (founder, choreographer and trainer at DWC), where she now trains in jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, and diverse styles that continue to shape her evolving identity as a dancer.
Largely self-taught, she developed her skills through observation, discipline, and consistent practice, apart from her formal foundation in ballet. In 2026, she took a significant step forward by enrolling in a dance academy, where she now trains in jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, and diverse styles that continue to shape her evolving identity as a dancer. A perfectionist by nature, she is driven by an uncompromising pursuit of excellence, devoting herself to the refinement of every movement and every moment of performance. With meticulous attention to detail and unwavering discipline, she continually shapes her craft with precision, passion, and artistic intent… striving not merely to perform, but to elevate each expression to its highest form. Over time, what began as imitation evolved into artistry.
With a career rooted in early performance, musical artistry, and creative exploration, Yesandi exemplifies dedication, passion, and versatility as a promising young artist.
