Dr. Yogendra Kumar Saxena

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Harcourt Butler Technological Institute, Kanpur and a Master’s in Technology from the prestigious University Department of Chemical Technology, Bombay. I have also earned Doctorate in the field of Environmental Biology & Management.

In a career spanning over three decades, I have held leadership position in top corporates as well as multilateral organisations such as Tata Power, Jubilant Life Sciences, Ambuja Cements, United Nations Development Programme, Central Pollution Control Board, etc.

As the Chief Sustainability Officer of Tata Power, I led Sustainability, Corporate Environment, Biodiversity and CSR functions for the organisation including its major national and international subsidiaries. I also served as a Director on Board of Chemical Terminal Trombay Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power, a Trustee on Board of Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT) and as the Managing Trustee of the Mannat Foundation.

Currently, I am associated with TUV Rheinland, as an Advisor in the areas of Environment, Health and Safety, Corporate Social Responsibility, Biodiversity management & Sustainability. . Through my strategic inputs, I am guiding the group to expand its advisory services business in India. I am also mentoring many business schools in India on these subjects.

My professional association includes membership of various national / international bodies.
I have served as a Stakeholder Council Member of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), The Netherlands, from 2003-08 and also as a Member of the G4 Working Group on Governance and Remuneration. I have also been instrumental in the development and release of the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards, through my active involvement with GRI.

I have authored two books and more than 125 papers in various national / international journals / seminars and/or conferences. Besides many awards, I was recently adjudged the “CSO of the Year” by Sustainability Outlook at the Parivartan Sustainability Trailblazer Awards 2014. Earlier, the Centre for Science & Environment (CSE) adjudged me as the “Best Environment Manager” of the nation, under its Green Rating Project in association with UNDP.
