Yla Eason
Brooklyn
Yla Eason's entry into the toy market started when her son made a comment about how all superheroes were white. Recognizing a lack of ethnic diversity in both superheroes and the toy market in general, she did some market research, secured investors, created a prototype African-American superhero doll and founded Olmec Toys.
While many toy companies were skeptic about the success of a multiracial toy company, Olmec Toys has gone on to reach over $5 million in sales, and through her innovation in the toy industry, Yla Eason has earned numerous awards for her hard work. Her experience starting the company has even been used as a case study in business schools to teach students about multiracial marketing.
Yla Eason is also a certified Lego Serious Play Facilitator, a Lego consultant service meant to foster creative thinking through the team building metaphors of their organizational identities with Lego bricks.
Yla's passion for toys extends into her personal life; she is an enthusiastic 3D printer, who is using 3D printing to design a prototype for a new doll, "Afro Babies".
