Ymani Sedona Hawkins
Ymani Sedona Hawkins is a second-year student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) in Greensboro, NC, majoring in psychology with a concentration in marriage and family, minoring in business. With a goal to obtain a doctorate in marriage and family therapy at the completion of her undergraduate studies, she plans to open family counseling practices in North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, DC.
Ms. Hawkins currently works as a research intern for strategic business management and marketing firm, Evolutions Consulting LLC. There, she puts her psychological and business studies to use by examining how disruptive business challenges impact both entrepreneurs and the businesses they lead.
Outside of the classroom and work, one can find Ms. Hawkins active in her community and in church. A talented actress, singer and songwriter, she has performed since the age of six. Her artistic experiences include acting in productions such as "Twelfth Night", "Macbeth", "The Drowsy Chaperone" and "West Side Story"; writing, performing and arranging songs for gospel plays and musicals; singing as both soloist and choral member for concert choir and a capella group recitals at performance halls and churches for family, friends and the general public; and leading elite a capella groups, choruses and chamber choirs . Inspired by many of her musical influences, she takes the helm of the UNCG gospel choir and praise team, beginning Fall 2014.
Ms. Hawkins is the 2007 Garden State Karate Games Champion in Sparring (Young Women's Division). Speaks fluent Spanish and enjoys international travel.
