Yoram Hazony

Respected philosopher and political theorist Yoram Hazony is currently engaged with the establishment of Shalem College, Israel’s first liberal arts college. Serving as Academic Director, Yoram Hazony is responsible for the advancement of the school’s broad range of curricula as well as the formation of a stellar faculty. Yoram Hazony hopes to be offering Bachelor of Arts degrees to students within the next few years. In collaboration with the Shalem Center, which Yoram Hazony co-founded in 1994, Shalem College will offer programs in Philosophy, Political Theory, and Religion (PPR) and Middle East and Islamic Studies, adding more majors as resources become available. Yoram Hazony currently acts as the Shalem Center’s Provost and is a Senior Fellow in its PPR department.

A leading expert on several subjects, Yoram Hazony regularly speaks for the B’nai B’rith Lecture Bureau on a variety of subjects, including Judaism, Zionism, Israel, philosophy, and higher education. In the past few years, Yoram Hazony has been invited to present at a number of academic conferences, including the Annual Meeting of the Hume Society in Nova Scotia, the Newton and Empiricism conference at the University of Pittsburgh, and the Political Hebraism conference at Princeton University. Over two decades, Yoram Hazony has published articles in many magazines and journals, garnering him significant attention from scholars, politicians, and professionals around the world. Yoram Hazony has also written two books, The Dawn: Political Teachings of the Book of Esther and The Jewish State: The Struggle for Israel’s Soul; he is currently working on a third book, The Philosophy of Hebrew Scripture: An Introduction.

Yoram Hazony holds a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies from Princeton University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Political Theory from Rutgers University. At present, Yoram Hazony lives in Jerusalem with his wife and children.
