York Prep

The path to a successful college career starts with attending the right school for high school and middle school. York Prep, on the Upper West side of New York City, provides that right school for hundreds of students. York Prep is a day school for students in grades 6 through 12. The school has an amazing success rate for college admissions. 100 percent of its graduating students go on to college.

The low student to teacher ratio is one of the reasons all of the school's students succeed. Three-hundred-fifty students attend school at York Prep. The school has a faculty of 70. The ratio of students to teachers is 7:1. On average, each class has about 15 students in it. The small class size ensures that each student receives the attention he needs.

The small class size also encourages greater participation from students. This, in turn, further prepares them for life in college. Many college classes are structured as seminars. Students are expected to participate and share their opinions and thoughts.

York Prep also uses a tracking system to make sure each student is learning to his or her greatest ability. The tracking system assigns students to learning groups based on his/her abilities or skills within a subject. The learning groups make sure that students remain challenged in their studies. They also allow students to work with other students who are at the same level in certain subjects.

The Summer Reading program is an exciting program at York Prep. Every student returning to York Prep or attending for the first time is expected to read at least two books from a list compiled by the school's English teachers. Summer reading keeps students' minds fresh and engaged over the long summer months. Giving students the choice of books to read means they will be able to read something they truly enjoy.

York Prep offers students plenty of extracurricular activities as well. Varsity sports are offered to students in the upper levels. Middle school students can participate in co-ed soccer, basketball, and track and field. Clubs include fashion club, anime club and boat building.
