Yousef Kekhia is a Singer/Songwriter, born in Syria, who recently moved to Berlin.
By combining Folk and Electronic music with original stories from his homeland, he developed a singular style of sharing his intimate stories, making them nostalgic, direct and moving.
After writing his first own songs and playing numerous gigs in his hometown Aleppo, due to the war, Kekhia moved to Turkey in 2013, where he produced his first cover album “Away from home” (2015), interpreting artists like Bob Dylan, Tallest Man On Earth and Damien Rice. The record gained positive attention throughout the underground music scene of the Arabic world, for example on important platforms like “Mideast Tunes”.
After the war in his country started and he had to leave Syria, he found himself wanting to express his emotions and stories through music and he felt the need to share his music with as many people as possible. In his songs, he talks mostly about everyday life stories and emotions captured from them, but sometimes emerges into more political and social problems.
The guitar and keyboard player has a conceptual approach to his music and believes that it not only includes music, but all aspects of art combined together in one project. Therefor, he has worked with different artists from different artistic fields on his projects, such as illustrators, designers and videographers.
Yousef Kekhia based in Berlin, now working on his debut album “Monologue”, which is expected to be released in 2018.
