Amy E. Bennett has experience working in the journalism field, mostly in the community journalism realm. She has experience as a photographer, designer, reporter, editor and even helped deliver the paper on some slow weeks.
When the newspaper's editor left, Amy became acting-editor for the next year, knowing that grad school was just around the corner. The local school board voted her to the Virginia School Board Association's Media Honor Roll for two years, an honor given for fair and balanced reporting.

Amy enrolled in Regent University's Northern Virginia masters program (Old Town Alexandria) and began working on a master's of arts degree in journalism. While there, she had the privilege to study under and learn from some of the area's premiere journalists.
After accomplishing her master's, Amy returned to the community newspaper where she worked previously and became managing editor for two community newspapers for about a year before entering academia. An adjunct position opened up in the School of Communication, and Amy taught Mass Communication Writing for a year and a half before being hired to teach full-time with Communication Studies in fall 2006.
Classes taught include: Public Relations Writing, Opinion and Editorial Writing, Media Writing, Speech Communication.

Amy has taught both in the residential and online classroom. She has also developed journalism courses for an online program.
