Yunjing (Bob) Luo
Bloomington, Indiana, United States
I have been to two elementary, middle, and high schools in two countries. The experience I gained from all those different places helped me to improve my communication and observation skills significantly. On the first day I went to my American high school in Atlanta, Georgia. I was so excited because everyone around me looked nice and kind. However, one month after, I discovered that my American classmates were kind, but hard to make them real friends because of different backgrounds. I then learned to observe my classmates’ conversations and behaviors, and joined their discussions to fit in the environment. Finally, I made many American friends and we went to hiking every weekend.
Now, as a freshman at IU, I keep exploring opportunities with my diverse background to improve my communication and observation skills. For example, acting as the director of diversity at Teter Student Government, I held many successful cultural events and learned more about interacting with different types of people appropriately. As the director of Networking at Chinese Business Association, I have had better understanding on communication and observation as well. With my communication and observations skills as well as my diverse background, I will help my future firm to identity what customers’ real needs are in the globalized business world.
