Yuri Calderon

Yuri Calderon received his BA with honors in International Studies with a minor in Economics from the University of Denver, where he was inducted into the Dean’s National Honor Society and served as the president of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. While subsequently studying for his JD at Georgetown University Law Center, he served as the president of La Alianza del Derecho, the Latino law students’ association. During this period, Yuri Calderon also gained invaluable experience clerking for the Texas Attorney General and the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Litigation Division.

By 1994, Yuri Calderon was appointed as Assistant General Counsel to the Houston Independent School District, where he solved and preempted civil rights, constitutional, labor, and various other types of cases for the fifth largest school district in the country. In 1997, he joined Bracewell & Patterson, LLP, in Houston, where he served as a Senior Associate and provided legal services to numerous public institutions, including utilities, school districts, and municipal governments.

In 2001, Yuri Calderon was recruited to join Burke Williams & Sorensen, LLP in San Diego as an equity partner where he represented various public and private entities throughout California. In 2006, he left Burke to establish his own firm, Garcia Calderon & Ruiz, LLP. As its managing partner, Mr. Calderon presided over the firm’s growth from 13 attorneys to one with more than 30 legal professionals in five cities across the Southwestern United States.

Yuri Calderon has served as the COO and general counsel for Caldwell Flores Winters, Inc., since 2012. His duties include the management of the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District's facilities program where he has overseen the construction of the Santa Maria Joint Union High School Performing Arts Center at Pioneer Valley High School in California.
