Yusuf Ali Adan

Writer in Bosaso, Somalia

Yusuf Ali Adan, known as Jamjam, was born on December 25, 1985, in Bosaso, Bari, Somalia. He grew up in Bosaso, where his mother was a businesswoman, and his father served as the Chief of Mining in North Eastern Somalia.

Yusuf is a journalist, writer, politician, and activist who has been a vocal advocate against corruption, as well as for the rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs), human rights, and children's education. His fearless reporting on corruption and clan-based politics in the Puntland government led to his arrest on July 7, 2010, by local administration soldiers in Bosaso.

He was later handed over to the Puntland Intelligence Service (PIS), where he endured poor treatment, physical punishment, and psychological abuse. During his imprisonment, he suffered severe beatings and torture, resulting in broken ribs and forced medical injections.

On January 13, 2011, Yusuf left his hometown of Bosaso and has never returned.

He completed his education at Imam Nawawi School in Bosaso and holds a diploma in Business Administration. With five years of experience as a journalist in Bosaso, Yusuf previously served as the editor of Somalifans Online and Sirqarsoon.com.

Now living in Denmark as a political refugee, Yusuf continues his work in journalism and activism, striving to bring truth to light.
