Zahim Albakri

Actor, Filmmaker, and Theatre Director in Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

An award-winning actor and theatre director, Zahim Albakri is the artistic director of Dramalab and a founding member of Instant Café Theatre. He has appeared in a number of acclaimed television, theatre and film productions. In 1999, Zahim received TV3’s Anugerah Skrin Best Actor award for his role in the TV drama Odissi. In 2004, his stage performance in Huzir Sulaiman’s The Smell of Language garnered him the Boh Cameronian Arts Award for best solo performance . For theatre, he has directed Cuci The Musical, P.Ramlee The Musical, Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical, Gold Rain And Hailstones, Separation 40, The Storyteller, A Flight Delayed and Spilt Gravy On Rice. He has received the Best Director award at the Boh Cameronian Arts Awards in 2002 for Spilt Gravy on Rice, in 2005 with Alvin Tan for Separation 40 and then again in 2006 with Adlin Aman Ramlie for Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical. He also received the Anugerah Seni Negara (National Arts Award) for Theatre Directing in 2006. Zahim was a consultant on the setting up of the performing arts centre, PJ Live Arts, in Petaling Jaya, Selangor and served as PJLA’s first Artistic Director from 2008 until 2011. In 2011, he started work on his first feature film as a director. A screen adaptation of the award-winning play, Spilt Gravy on Rice, Zahim is also credited on the film as a co-writer and plays the role of the eldest sibling, Zack. Spilt Gravy on Rice had its World Premiere at the Colombo International Film Festival in 2015. Zahim's last theatre role was as Iachimo in a Bahasa Indonesia adaptation of Shakespeare's Cymbeline performed in Bali in June 2016. His latest screen role was as ACP Roslan in the film Temuan Takdir released in August 2016.
