Zameer Sattaur

Imam Zameer Sattaur was born in Georgetown, Guyana, South America in 1966. From a young age, he began preliminary Islamic studies with local Imams and leaders of his hometown. Noted from a very young age, he was selected to represent his country in the World Quran Competition in 1982 at the age of 17. During this competition he was privileged to enter the Kabah and gifted with a Kiswa by the Governor of Makkah al Mukarramah.

It was during that trip that Imam Zameer was first blessed to visit the city of our Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. Visiting the city and being in the company of the pious, Imam Zameer knew that he wanted to live there at any means possible. Upon his return, several months later he was selected to attend the Islamic University of Madinah. Imam Zameer used his time wisely in Madinah seeking the company of those adhering to Traditional Islam. In addition to his University studies, he studied with the likes of his eminence Shaykh Muhammad Alawi al-Maliki al-Hasani amongst others.

Upon making his first Hajj during his years as a student, Imam Zameer made dua asking Allah to allow him to return every year in the service of his guests. With the immense blessings of Allah, Imam Zameer has been able to return year after year for not only the performance of Hajj, but the active assistance of what is now over 1200 pilgrims in his group annually. To date, Imam Zameer has led and assisted nearly 15,000 pilgrims ranging from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, The Caribbean and Guyana.

Imam Zameer served as the Imam of Masjid Al Abidin in Queens, New York from 1993 to 2007. In 2008 he founded the Imam Ghazali Institute under the supervision and endorsement of his eminence Shaykh Muhammad Al Yaqoubi, his eminence Shaykh Faisal Hamid Abdur Razak, and his eminence Shaykh Ahmad Muhammad Alawi Al-Maliki. The classes and services offered by the Imam Ghazali Institute have reached both the East and West coasts of the United States. Imam Zameer has served as an advisor & Khatib of several Masajid and Islamic Centers in the New York tri-state area, in addition to presently serving as the Muslim Chaplain of the MTA New York City.
