Zara Khan

Urbana, Illinois, United States

I come from the cultural hub of Pakistan, Lahore. I opted journalism because I believe in change through education. Where I consider myself privileged enough to be pursing my master degree from one of the renowned universities in the world, I feel deep responsibility of returning to my society.
I started interning in different organizations as a teenager. My first job was as a reporter when I was 19. Reporting in Pakistan, especially for women, is not as convenient as it is in the U.S. but my experience made me tough. It made me tough as a person and tough as a journalist.
After my undergraduate degree, I started working full-time at the second largest news network in Pakistan called the Express News. I am also associated with World Health Organization, UNICEF and American Red Cross. I am UNICEF Campus Initiative Leader at the University of Illinois. I hope to make the world a better place.
