ZAREENA YASMIN QURESHI For a demonstration of art work over a wide range of subjects and media, you should view the elegant artworks of Zareena. Zareena is a highly successful artist whose exhibitions have been widely acclaimed by public and critics alike. Her 1989 exhibition was opened by Ken Colbung, Chairman of the Nyoongah Aboriginal Community who acknowledged her works to be "Revolutionary" and recognised them as "spiritual paintings illustrating common cultural (ancestral) links". David Bromfield noted art critic for the West Australian Newspaper wrote "The combination (of her cultural backgrounds) creates a stunning contrast between the raw beauty of the Aboriginal art and the deliberate and precise detail of the (indigenous) Indian form". Proceeds of her exhibitions have invariably assisted charities with major contributions going to the Freedom from Hunger Campaign, Activ Industries, Amnesty International and Darlington Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.Magic Koala Foundation for homless children and King Kigeli of Rwanda foundation which she was awarded a medale for Peace and Reconsiliation. The welfare of the deprived and the freedom of the oppressed, have always figured strongly in the agenda of this caring observer, and has given freely of her time and works to many such causes. Zareens's objectives in this work were to create awareness of the plight of the indigenous peoples, to draw attenion to their loss of identity, the suversion of their culture, and general issues of importance to the broader community. Land rights, political struggles and environmental issues being prominenet concerns. It should be no surprise to anyone. In 1992 Zareena was one of the few from Australia invited to exhibit her works in Barcelona Spain, as part of the Olympic Games celebrations. Zareena's conventional art work has progressed parallel to her computer graphics and her exhibitions have been universally successful with one entirely sold out.
