Legal and Claims in Singapore

Zhi Biao of Singapore, grew up believing that life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. This belief stemmed from the exposure to British musician Frank Turner's songs and a total misreading of Jack Kerouac's On The Road.

Following the footsteps of Kerouac, Zhi Biao joined the Merchant Navy in 2005, serving as Navigating Officer onboard numerous container vessels, navigating the oceans and sailing the seven seas.

In the summer of 2011, Zhi Biao joined NYK Line as Ship Planner, and subsequently as Vessel Operator. In addition of being responsible for liner shipping operations, Zhi Biao also initiated the implementation of automatic data exchange of stowage plans. He is one of the few, who were successfully trained to handle multiple trade regions such as North America, Inter-Asia and Oceanic.

Currently, Zhi Biao is with Norvic Shipping, as Claims and Legal Manager, The position provides legal services, as well as FD&D and P&I support.

Zhi Biao was the Claims Manager at Oldendorff, acting as in-house FD&D. He is an experiences operator of Panamax & handy size vessels, handling post fixture operational matters. Zhi Biao joined the organisation as Marine Accounting Manager in 2014, with a department specialised in vessel-related accounting such as hire, freight and laytime. Within a year, he took over the responsibility in leading and developing a team, focused on vessel hire.

Zhi Biao holds a Master of Laws degree (LLM) in International Maritime Law from World Maritime University and received distinction for his dissertation. He also holds a MBA and read Maritime Operations at the prestigious Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz (Bachelor of Science, Willem Barentsz Award) and Singapore Maritime Academy (Diploma with merit, valedictorian & course medalist). He is an Associate Member (AMSNI) with Singapore Nautical Institute, Member with The Nautical Institute (MNI), and Maritime Law Association of Singapore (MLAS). In his spare time, he enjoys scuba diving and planning his next adventure with a single malt whisky.
