You are a grown up
"This only works out if you’re self motivated. No-one is going to tell you to work differently, it’s up to you to find how you’re most effective."
Everything I have learned to date has been through self motivation. When I was a child I had a copy of Game Maker for the Playstation One. On weekends I would spend hours tinkering and creating "games". When I wasn't allowed on the Playstation my brothers and I would create boardgames on cardboard and paper. I once designed a turn based tactical shooter inspired by Counter-Strike, using lego (I had been grounded from the computer).
When I was in high school (roughly nine years ago), I became fasinated with the idea of creating games. Using video tutorials on Youtube I learned how to used the Hammer Editor and began creating maps for Counter-Strike:Source. I never finished them or relased them on FPSBanana or other such websites. It was always the doing that I enjoyed. I didn't care if it was ever finished, I just had fun doing it.
After High School I did a short stint at a private university. It was extremely overpriced and I was unable to continue my schooling. Upon returning to the real world I had to get a job and no longer found the time to persue my dreams.
Then in 2012 I began to see all these wonderful indie games release. I relised this is what I had wanted to apart of. So I purchased some books about programming, and started reading. I started with C++ in hopes of learning to program a game. I found a small program called Construct and began tickering with it's visual scripting. Then Unreal4 was released to public. I immediately subscribed and began learning the Blueprints system and their style of visual scripting.
I was unhappy with Unreal4 though. While it's a powerful engine, its far too large. Small projects that should have been 100mb were five times that amount. So I downloaded the free version of Unity3d and began learning C#. I used the projects in the learning section of the Unity website as well tutorials I found on Youtube.
I spend most of my free time learning what I can. I have no trouble motivating myself, because this is what I truly want to do with my life.
