I strongly value diversity, equity, and justness. Differences should be celebrated and individuals of diverse backgrounds should be given equitable opportunities.
Being caring, empathetic, and a good listener are key to being open to different experiences, identities, and perspectives. I value engaging in challenging dialogue in order to resolve interpersonal issues.
My past experience volunteering in local public schools has helped me gain more hands-on experience working with children of various ages, allowed me to observe teaching techniques, and has taught me ways to accommodate to different learning abilities and styles.
My experience as an Economic Justice Intern at a community organization taught me to be open-minded, furthered my knowledge of social change strategies, and showed me concrete ways I can work with others to fight inequality.
I’m interested in how inequities are perpetuated or disrupted in the education system and how positive social changes are made. Because of the powerful influence that education has, my dream is to one day teach sociology, psychology, and social justice courses at the high school level.
