I am a sailor without a boat.

I am sailing to a place unknown,

I am never scared,there is no fear.

I will sail safely and cheer.

I am a sailor, but I don’t have a boat. Sailors travel to places they have never known to absorb new knowledge,to experience new possibilities, and more importantly, to enjoy the feeling of conquering obstacles.

“I am a sailor.” Seated on a plane at 35000 feet high, looking out of the window at the blue sky and white clouds,I told myself this. I was on my flight to the United States. As a born Chinese with little knowledge of the outside world, I was not going to the States for sightseeing. I was going to begin college there, in Georgia, in a brand place that I had never been to in the 18 years of my life. A whole new journey was waiting for me. To be honest, I was excited, but I was also really scared. I knew there would be so many obstacles waiting for me, and I didn’t know if I would be able to conquer them.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your seat belts and remain calm. We are now experiencing turbulence.” The sudden words from the captain woke me up from my imagination. The plane started to shake heavily. With people screaming, the plane was going down sharply. “The plane is going to crash!” I told myself. “What should I do?” Time seemed to freeze at that specific moment. I was scared, like I was facing doomsday.

“Just calm down and fasten your seat belt.” There was a middle-aged man in a business suit, sitting beside me. “Turbulence happens all the time, and there is nothing you can do to change it.” He managed to smile warmly at me. “The only thing that you can control is yourself...” He looked me in the eyes. “It’s the same in real life, isn’t it? We can’t controlthe things that scare us, but we can control our fear.”

Of course, the plane never really crashed. The turbulence stopped in ten minutes. When I disembarked the plane and stepped onto the ground of Atlanta, that businessman’s words still resonated in my head. “Yes, fear is my enemy! There is no need to be afraid at all! I just need to try my best to do the things I should do to make myself successful!”
