If we play a game, and I give you two truths and one lie, would you be able to guess it correctly? Let's try: 1) I have a pet hamster, 2) My grandpa used to skin snakes and use them as cloth, 3) I am Asian American. I assume the probability of choosing 3) is low because of how blatantly obvious that I am of course, Asian, and I live in America (Asian American!). However, that is indeed the false answer.
To be honest, I myself am not certain of my nationality. I have lived in a total of 13 areas, in four different countries. I own citizenship in both Britain and Canada, and a permanent residence in America. Although I was born in China, there is no citizenship nor connection of any sort for me to define myself as "from China". Therefore, where am I from? To answer this question, I have created a new word for my special situation: "Chennadaca" - basically the names of all the countries combined into one indescribable word. I know, not very creative, but very realistic. I believe that this word describes me perfectly, not only in the sense of location, but also in my cultural diversity. Inhabiting four different countries has allowed me to experience different cultural ethics and embody these values as a merged entity. Just like the word, my way of life has evolved into a beautiful and indescribable jumble of unique cultural perspectives, compressed into a single unit within my mind. It is both confusing yet enlightening, conflicting and advantageous. Although I can never use the word "Chennadaca" to actually describe where I am from; the word is, however, a representation of me as a cultural melting pot, installed with the values of four different countries, from a mysterious land that may cause some public judgment if said aloud.
