Director DeCKie

Director DeCKie (born Mulabbi Derrick on 4 October 2001) is a Ugandan cinematographer, film director, videographer, video editor, photographer, and entrepreneur. He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Deckie Filmz, a Ugandan media production company established in 2022. He is recognized for directing music videos, documentaries, commercial productions, and digital content, and has collaborated with several Ugandan musicians and content creators.

Early Life and Background

Director DeCKie was born on 4 October 2001 in Bukooli Village, Jami Parish, Kamonkoli Sub-county, Budaka District, Uganda.

He was born to Stephen Kamba and Logose Tolofisa. His father passed away in 2008, leaving the family while Director DeCKie and his siblings were still young. He has two older sisters, Hellen Gimbo and Rachael Namugosa, and one younger brother, Brian Mwoya.

Following the loss of his father, he joined Watoto Child Care Ministries, which funded him with everything where he continued his education and developed an interest in media and storytelling.

Education

Director DeCKie began his primary education at Jami Primary School in Budaka District.

In 2012, while in Primary Four, he relocated to Kampala and enrolled at I.D. Raymer Primary School under Watoto Child Care Ministries.

After completing Primary Five with outstanding academic performance, he was promoted directly to Primary Seven, skipping Primary Six under the Watoto academic advancement program for high-performing pupils.

He later joined Hope Senior School, Bbira, also under Watoto Ministries. During his secondary education, he discovered his passion for filmmaking, participating in documentary production and learning the fundamentals of video editing.

He later enrolled at ISBAT University, where he pursued Multimedia Studies. His university education broadened his knowledge of cinematography, photography, editing, and digital media production.

While still a university student, he began working professionally with Ugandan entertainers, musicians, and digital content creators.

Career

Director DeCKie officially founded Deckie Filmz in 2022 after deciding to establish his own production company and pursue an independent creative career.
