My fashion style revolves around one particular item: tank tops. I love their simplicity and comfort. Tank tops have saved me a significant amount of time when deciding what to wear for the day because they complete any outfit for almost any occasion. For someone who easily gets hot and sweats an absurd amount, less fabric on my body means looking like someone who casually jogged to class versus someone who just came from an intense water gun war. Unfortunately, strangers may stereotype guys who wear “bro tanks” as cocky narcissists. This situation makes for a fun game of disproving people’s assumptions. Tank tops reveal much more than arm and shoulder muscles; they display an impressive and captivating persona. When I wear a tank top, I am ten feet tall, I can look anyone in the eyes and talk to them, I become the best version of me. The stretch marks around my shoulder and chests transform from embarrassing scars to monuments of my hard work in the gym. They symbolize my victory over obesity and self-esteem issues as a kid. I have no sleeves, no layers to hide behind. I am exposed and vulnerable yet courageous and strong. I am a tank top superhero.
