Lakewood CA: How the city got its name
The Los Angeles County suburb, Lakewood, CA is one of the ideal places to live. Though quaint, it is improving and is surrounded by multiple attractions in California. The State Department of Finance estimated in May 2017 that the city’s population is 79,272.

As for Lakewood, there were sources which asserted that the “founder of Lakewood” Clark Bonner, a land baron named Lakewood since the area had woods said to be around General Bouton Lake. That could be true, but site photos before the development show not a lot of eucalyptus trees adjacent to the marshy depression, which was all there was of the accidental Bouton’s lake. Most likely, the name was picked by Bonner for the Lakewood Country Club Estates associated with prestige and wealth due to the fame of the resort community of Lakewood, New Jersey.
Then there are other attractions with notable names. The 2.2-acre Candleverde Park is the Palo Verde Avenue and Candlewood Street intersection. Meanwhile, the developers of the Cherry Cove Park and playground were from the Cherry Cove housing tract. Lakewood City acquired it in 1971.
Formerly called MacArthur Park because it was adjacent to the MacArthur Elementary School, the Del Valle Park now includes the 2015-rededicated Lakewood Veterans Memorial that honors those who served in the military. The acclaimed Honduras liberator José del Valle wrote an independence declaration for Central America.
