Laura Heimpel was born in May of 1998, and was raised by her two parents in Waterloo, Ontario. She is the oldest of three siblings. Laura developed a love for children from a young age, and eventually developed an interest to specialize in Special Education. Her dedication thus far has helped both herself, and many others reach their full potential.

Before University, Laura played competitive hockey for ten years. Hockey, among the various sports she played taught her: leadership, team work, conflict management, and the importance of self-improvement. Each of these skills have been important in shaping a career in education for Laura. In 2016, she moved to Sudbury, Ontario to complete a Bachelor of Education, and a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education at Laurentian University. Not only is Laura currently playing recreational hockey, but she is also coaching. She has trained youth players for seven years now between the ages of four and ten. Her love for children and her passion for coaching is one of the main reasons she chose to go into the teaching profession.

Over the past summers, Laura worked as a Job Coach for KW Habilitation, an agency in Kitchener, Ontario. She was responsible for mentoring a program focused on developing work related skills, and finding summer employment for youth and adults with developmental disabilities. Her summer employment has given her the knowledge to develop individualized support plans, and the ability to empower those who need the support to reach their full potential.

Through the countless experiences Laura has gained over the course of her life, she has been able to work with many children in various capacities. As she prepares for the next chapter of her life, she is very excited for the opportunity to pursue her passion for working with children.
