Following the presidency of George H.W. Bush, in 1993, while a reporter for the The Los Angeles Times, Murray Waas, along with colleague Douglas Frantz, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in the category of national reporting for his stories detailing the Bush administration's prewar foreign policy towards the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein. That same year, Murray Waas and Douglas Frantzs were winners of the Goldsmith Prize for "a series that detailed United States policy toward Iraq prior to the Persian Gulf war.
More recently, Murray Waas has worked as a national correspondent and a contributing editor of National Journal. He more currently written for the New York Review, Vox,the Atlantic, and the Guardian,
