In the heart of the county, visitors can find St. Mary’s River State Park that features a fishing lake and a mountain bike trail. Located at the north end of the county’s river watershed, the 2,000-acre park has a 250-acres of the fishing lake. While its flat landscape has not been intended for a mountain biking terrain, the 7.5-mile course that encircles the lake is considered a treasure and now open for hiking. The park opens at dawn and closes at dusk every day from April through October. Visitors can ask for additional hours and extended dates by calling.

The St. Mary’s River State Park is classified into two areas - the Site 1, which includes St. Mary’s Lake, an entrance and parking off Camp Cosoma Road and the Site 2 that consists of the hunting area and wildlands. For those interested in hunting activities, 2,200-acres of public hunting lands are provided for this. Bow and arrow and firearm hunting are permitted in-season. However, hunters must call for reservations or they can visit the DNR website for additional information. At the Site 1, waterfowl hunting is allowed at designated areas only while gas motors will not be permitted, only boats are allowed. Reservation is also required. Site 2, on the other hand, 850-acres of public hunting lands can be used and trapping will only be allowed if there is a permit.
