Sonya Pierre demonstrates a dedication to excellence and client services that began long before she became an entertainment lawyer. She has had the privilege of working alongside and being mentored by several highly-regarded business executives and entertainment lawyers. One of those mentors, Dick Parsons, former chief executive officer of Timer Warner and former chairman of Citigroup, says this of Sonya: “Having run the course, I think I know a little about what it takes to be successful in this industry and this young lady has it.” Mark Siegel, industry veteran and co-head of music at talent and literary agency ICM Partners, adds, “Sonya has a combination of street smarts, artistic taste, high intelligence and hustle that is essential for the music business.”

Prior to starting her own company, Sonya was an associate at Phillips Nizer, LLP in the firm’s legendary entertainment division, home of Led Zeppelin, where she represented multi-platinum, award-winning artists in music, television & film, business, and fashion. Additionally, Sonya advised notable celebrity and high-profile clients on intellectual property, copyright infringement issues and brand management.

As a junior associate at one of New York’s premier boutique entertainment law firms, Sonya drafted and negotiated various agreements for record labels, music executives, megastar artists and producers such as 300 Entertainment, Kanye West, Andre 3000, LA Reid, Sean Kingston, Tiesto, Dr. Luke, Mark Ronson, Pop Wansel, Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas, Fifth Harmony, Santigold, Lyfe Jennings and WatchTheDuck.

Sonya's impressive legal resume also includes her experience in mergers & acquisitions at the New York office of global law firm Jones Day, where she worked under the immediate direction of Bob Profusek, “Dealmaker of the Year" (American Lawyer 2005) and one of the "Top Ten Mergers and Acquisitions Attorneys in the United States" (Lawyer Rankings 2013).

In 2011, New York entertainment attorney Allen Grubman, who Business Week once referred to as "the most powerful lawyer in the music business" and "perhaps the music industry's wealthiest and most powerful attorney" (Newsweek) personally appointed Sonya to an internship at his law firm, Grubman Indursky & Shire, where she drafted and revised celebrity appearance agreements.

During law school at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, Sonya tried her hand at tort law with the Super Lawyers at Herman Herman Katz, LLP... more
