Toby Grossberg

Student and creative in New York

Hi! I'm Toby, a junior majoring in Public Relations at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, with minors in Music Industry and Psychology. I am fascinated by the power of media, content creation, and communication outreach and strategy, and I’m driven by ambition, creativity, curiosity, and the desire to build meaningful stories that resonate and shape culture. I've pretty much always been obsessed with pop culture, music, social media, and entertainment, so finding a career that combines all of those things feels like the perfect fit for me.

Music has always been a huge part of my life. I love going to concerts, musicals, performing and singing myself, making extremely specific playlists for every possible mood, discovering new artists, and talking about whatever song, artist, or pop culture moment I’m currently obsessed with. I’m especially interested in the way social media has changed how we discover music and connect with artists. I love seeing how one TikTok, trend, performance, or random resurfaced song can completely change the way people interact with music.

This past summer, I got to experience this firsthand through internships at Primary Wave Music and Audible Treats. I worked in digital marketing and publicity, creating social content, researching artists and trends, tracking media coverage, and learning more about what actually goes into building and maintaining an artist’s presence. Getting to work with music every day made me even more confident that this is the industry I want to be in.

My future goal is to pursue a professional communications role within the entertainment and music industries, where I can combine my love for artistry, music, media, narrative, and human connection.

Outside of my education, work-related experiences, and music, I love spending time with my friends and family, traveling, and trying new things. I live in Westchester, NY, with my parents and a 130-pound Bernese Mountain Dog who likes to act as a lap dog.
