Tracking The Trailblazers

Upland is located along Route 66 on its westernmost side. It is part of the Inland Empire, which is a metropolitan area found at the east of the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

The city was the uninhabited part of Rancho Cucamonga until 1882. George Chaffey then bought over 8,000 acres of land in the old Rancho Cucamonga as well as water rights from San Antonio Creek. He constructed a main road running north to south through the agricultural community.

In 1926, the National Old Trails Association created a road which was incorporated into the brand-new U.S. Highway 66. According to the 1940s Caltrans road map, Route 66 ran across Upland from east to west as Foothill Boulevard. Olive is located on the northern side of the city, on Highland Boulevard and Euclid Avenue ran south through Ontario and beyond.

Over time, the urban progression of Los Angeles has grown which led to fields being developed. Several old Route 66 areas were razed and replaced with establishments like malls and houses.

You can go on a road trip to Upland along old Route 66. You can go through the following freeways: Foothill Boulevard or through Interstate 10, 15, 215. You can also use state highway 210.
