Pius Bigembe – Professional Biography

Pius Bigembe is a social development professional and operations specialist with over five years of experience across humanitarian programs, social protection, and regulated financial services. His work focuses on supporting vulnerable populations, improving service delivery systems, and contributing to sustainable development initiatives in international and multicultural environments.

Born in 1991 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Pius developed an early understanding of community resilience and social challenges. He later continued his personal and professional journey in East Africa, where he built a strong foundation in education and humanitarian work.

He began his career in Uganda as a primary school teacher with Windle International Uganda (2013–2016), supporting access to education for refugee communities. He then worked as a Refugee English Trainer under programs funded by Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, contributing to initiatives addressing social protection and awareness, including gender-based violence prevention.

Pius later joined AVSI Foundation as a Social Worker and Program Coordinator (2018–2022), where he played a key role in implementing large-scale community programs supporting over 65,000 refugees and migrants. His work included program coordination, partnership management, and delivering psychosocial and reintegration support services, achieving significant impact in community resilience and inclusion.

In addition to his field experience, Pius has built strong academic credentials. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social Administration from Kampala International University and a Master’s degree in Social, Environmental, and Economic Sustainability from the University of Barcelona, with a specialization in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

More recently, he has expanded his expertise into technical and corporate environments. In Barcelona, he has worked as a Technical Support Specialist at MST Electronics and as a Data Analyst in client onboarding (KYC/AML) at ADM Value. In these roles, he has developed strong competencies in compliance, risk analysis, customer service, and operational process improvement.

Pius brings a unique combination of humanitarian insight and technical expertise, with strong skills in compliance (KYC/KYB, AML), data analysis, customer support systems, and cross-cultural communication. He is fluent in English, French, and Spanish, and a native speaker of Swahili.

His professional interests include sustainable development, social inclusion, migration and refugee support systems, and the use of technology and data to improve decision-making and service delivery.
